The Celtic Club ENews
August/September 2006
A Message from our President

Thank you to the committee for giving me the opportunity to
represent you the members as president of the Celtic Club.
It is with great honour that I accept the role and have the
opportunity to work with the staff to make the Celtic Club
a better place for all.
At this point I would like to thank outgoing president
Brian Shanahan for his time over the last 6 years.
A special thanks also to Brian’s wife Marlene for her support
and involvement during this time.
It is great to know that Brian and Marlene will continue to be
involved with the club.
I would like to thank the many people involved who have made
the Celtic Club the centre for Irish sport, culture, history,
language classes, GAA meetings and many other groups and
organisations that use the club as a central base.
I know my time as President will be short but if the members see
fit to put me back at the helm, I will give it 100% to bring our
Club into the 21st Century so that we can be proud to invite our
guests into the club.
Seamus Moloughney

Edward Kelly – The times of his life
1820 – 1893
By Kelvyn Gill
Saturday 11th November 7:30 pm
This book has been in the making for 35 years.
It uses extensive transcriptions of official documents, reports, newspaper articles and Royal Commission material to provide a detailed day-by-day account of the Kelly period and the years after 1880 during which the legacy of the Kelly saga affected the lives of many people. The most extensive list ever produced of the people drawn into the Kelly saga is included as is much material never before published. The book will provide a significant reference for future researchers and historians.
This fantastic new insight into Australian History highlights the roles many different new settlers played, in law making, policing, transport, engineering, lifestyle and so many other ways.
This detailed and thorough chronology of the life of infamous bushranger Ned Kelly will be published in November this year. As a special offer you can pre-order (send no money) a signed and personalised copy of the book at the recommended retail price of $29.95 (postage FREE in Aust).

Rose Gilmore in IT’S THE IRISH IN ME
IT’S THE IRISH IN ME is a delightful night of cabaret which stirs the soul. Rose tackles the lighter side of being an Irish descendant as well as engaging the audience in intimate stories of Irish immigrants. If the sound of an unaccompanied singer giving a soulful rendition of the Parting Glass brings a tear to your eye, or you just enjoy a good Irish joke, Rose Gilmore’s cabaret is a night not to be missed! Accompanied by Cameron Thomas on piano.
